MBBS in Poland – Officially known as the Republic of Poland, the country is a unitary state and is made up of 16 voivodeships. It is the sixth, in terms of the population, in the European Union. It is considered to be one of the fastest growing economies of EU. History
Historians believe that this country dates back to 966 AD. The country has been ruled by different dynasties since its origin. History depicts that people of Poland have participated in various uprisings against different governments. In 1952, the country was officially announced as Peoples’s Republic of Poland. It became a member of European Union in 2004 and joined Schengen Area in 2007. As a result, the international border of the country was dismantled allowing free movement within EU.

The country shares its boundary with Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania. The landmass of this country covers seven geographical regions. MBBS in Poland
Duration of this course is of 6 years, but prior to it you need to go through a preparatory course of one year. This course abides by the Bologna Process. The MBBS course can be divided into two distinct parts. During the two initial years, knowledge regarding basics of medical sciences is imparted to students. Gradually, they are introduced to the clinical aspect of the stream. The remaining four years of this course comprises of theoretical and practical classes. After completing and successfully passing the final examination, students are awarded a degree.

About Medical University of Gdansk
Medical University of Gdansk carries with it a rich history and a proud past. It was founded in the year 1945, but follows the medical practice and style of scientific research established in year 1558. The university takes constant effort and undertakes research to develop its infrastructure, teaching methods, syllabi and clinical framework. Equipment is modernized, buildings are reconstructed and overall changes are made to keep the staff and students updated with the latest in the world of medical science. The residential campus is conveniently located and there is also an extensive library and a student club. The University conducts continued scientific research reflected by the high rank it holds in the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education ranking. The Polish Government has recently recognised its Faculty of Pharmacy with Subfaculty of Laboratory Medicine as a National Leading Scientific Centre (KNOW).
Faculty and Courses
The four main faculties of the university are – the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biomedicine. The Faculty of Medicine offers three majors in medicine oof 6 years, medical stomatological which is a 5 year course and dental techniques which is a 3 year course. While the first two courses award an Msc degree, the last one is for those seeking a bachelor one. The State Accreditation Committee grants accreditation to both the Msc majors. The Faculty of Pharmacy offers two major courses, which are – pharmacy which is a 5 year Msc course and medical analysis which is another 5 year long Msc course. These courses are accredited by the country’s Ministry of Health. The Faculty of Health Sciences offers majors in nursing, physiotherapy, obstetrics, electro radiology, medical rescue service, public health and diabetics. Bsc courses are of 3 years duration while the Msc ones are of 2 years duration. The Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology offers studies on the subject at three levels – 3 year Bsc course, 2 year Msc course and finally 4 year PhD course. The State Accreditation Committee and the University Accreditation Committee both recognize the degrees. The university is listed on WHO and IMED and its degrees are accepted all over Europe, India, USA, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
Staff and Teaching
The total number of students at the Medical University of Gdansk is 6458 while the total number of scientific staff is 918, that of professors is 73, habilitated doctors 143 and PhDs, 532. Two degree programs, the Medicine Doctor and the Master of Pharmacy are taught in English medium of instruction.
Admission and Enrolment
Senior Secondary School pass outs may apply for the MBBS course, Master of Pharmacy programme, M.D. programme and the pre-medical course. Applications can be sent online but all candidates have to sit for an entrance test which focusses mostly on biology and chemistry. The M.D. programme has an admission fee of 2000 PLN, 1000 PLN for the orientation week, 43,000 PLN for the first year and 40,000 PLN for the 2nd to the 6th year of study. The Master of Pharmacy calls for a 2000 PLN admission fee, 1000 PLN orientation week fee and 30,000 PLN from 1st to 5th year of study. The premedical course charges 30,000 PLN for 6 months while the 5 year long MBBS is 40,000 PLN per year.
Fees Structure
Competitive fee structure is an important feature of these medical schools. The fee may vary based on the school that you choose. On an average, the fee is around 11,200 Euros per year. In the first year, students need to pay a registration fee and admission fee that are non-refundable. Apart from this, students also have to bear the expenses of their food, accommodation, travel and other expenses. For hostel accommodation, students have to deposit their fees in the beginning of the academic year.
Admission Process
Your scores in secondary education are important to seek admission to medical schools in the country. Along with this, you need good scores in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and your proficiency will be tested in the interview prior to admission. You also need to sit for a written examination. A host of document needs to be submitted to these universities include the official transcripts from your high school which has been notified by the Embassy. Certificate and mark sheet of secondary examination, TOEFL scores, birth certificate and recent passport size photograph have to be submitted. You also have to submit a medical certificate to the university to prove that you are physically fit.
Hostel
Most universities have hostels for their students within walking distance. These hostels are furnished and have every facility that makes their stay pleasant. Hostels are guarded well with security personnel. Generally two students have to share a room. The rooms are clean and have attached bathroom and kitchen. Staff looks after the cleanliness of the rooms and change linens of the hostel on a consistent basis.
Transportation
Poland has invested much in improving the transportation system of the country. Major means of transport in the country is through rail, road, air and ship. Students would not find it difficult to travel across the country.
Food
Here, the cuisine is highly influenced by those of the neighboring countries. They follow their traditional gastronomic flavors in their dishes. Meat and pork are a major part of their cuisine. Few of their noted cuisines are rosol, tomato soup, cucumber soup, potato dishes, faworki, gingerbread, buttermilk and kefir. In the canteens of these universities, students can also get few Indian cuisines.
Climate
The temperature of this country is temperate. In the northern part of the country, the temperature is oceanic, and in the southern and eastern part it is considerably warmer. Cold waves from Scandinavia and Siberia affects the temperature of the country to a great extent.
